WCHR Celebrates 16th Annual Palm Beach Hunter Spectacular
February 8, 2012
Lexington, KY - The USHJA World Championship Hunter Rider Palm Beach Spectacular will begin February 15, during week six of the FTI Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, FL. The Spectacular is celebrating its 16th anniversary as part of the WCHR schedule. Since its debut in 1997, the Spectacular has become one of the premiere show weeks of the WCHR program and the popularity of this event continues to grow each year.
The Spectacular was designed to be a Hunter Classic extravaganza, and a special part of the Member Event Series for the WCHR program. Throughout this week, the very best in show hunters will take center stage and riders will compete to qualify for several awards and hunter classics, the highlight of which is the Palm Beach Hunter Classic Spectacular, to be held in honor of Peter Wetherill, Saturday February 18, under the lights of the International Arena.
This year’s Spectacular will see the return of the original format with the Professionals, Juniors, and Amateurs competing head to head for the coveted title of the 2012 USHJA WCHR Hunter Spectacular Champion. Also new this season will be the presentation of the Peter Wetherill Cup on Saturday evening to Tammy and Jon Williams’ Davlyn Farms, the owners of Come Monday, voted the 2011 WCHR Hunter Horse of the Year.
VIP table and ticket sales for the Spectacular will benefit the USHJA Foundation, which provides funding for equestrians in need of urgent financial relief due to injury or illness through the Horseman’s Assistance Fund, as well as educational scholarships, and programs of the USHJA which include the WCHR, Emerging Athletes, Trainer Certification and Zone Programs.

About the WCHR: The USHJA World Championship Hunter Rider Program was founded in 1995 to recognize and celebrate the hunter rider. Since the inaugural WCHR Professional Finals in 1995 the WCHR program has expanded to include coveted year-end awards for Professionals, Emerging Professionals, Amateur Owners, Adult Amateurs, Juniors, Children’s and Pony riders. WCHR Program Members qualify for National and Regional Awards by earning points at Member Events held across the country throughout the qualifying year. Points from a rider’s top four WCHR Member Events will be used to determine the National and Regional standings. Each year the top ten nationally ranked riders and top six regionally ranked riders in each category, come together to compete in the WCHR Finals at the Capital Challenge Horse Show in Upper Marlboro, MD. The 2012 Capital Challenge Horse show will be held October 1-7, 2012.
Membership to the WCHR: In order to participate in the WCHR Awards Programs and the exciting classes offered during the Finals, USHJA members are required to join WCHR separately. Your USHJA membership does not include your WCHR dues. To learn more or to download a membership application please visit the USHJA web site at www.ushja.org.
