WCHR Points & Standings

Each rider is responsible for tracking their own World Championship Hunter Rider points by checking the current WCHR standings and remitting all discrepancy inquiries in writing to the USHJA**

National & Regional Standings

Once the results for each WCHR Event are posted, exhibitors that competed at said Event shall be sent an email notification requesting they check their posted points and follow the link to fill out a Competition Survey within 30 days.

**Regarding Points Discrepancies:

Exhibitors have 30 days after each WCHR Event's points are posted in which to question their WCHR points and standings. All WCHR points and standings will be locked 30* days after they are posted. All inquiries must be made to USHJA in writing; please email Hunter Dept.

*Should a horse be disqualified by the USEF Regulatory Department from a competition that is also a WCHR Event more than 30 days after a competition, the rider of the disqualified horse is also subject to lose those WCHR points.

Earning Points

Points earned at all WCHR Events are based on the WCHR Increment Chart. In all hunter sections the tier from the increment chart utilized to calculate points is based on the number of entries in the first over fences class. (Exception: High Performance Hunter and Performance Hunter 3’6” and 3’3”. In these sections the tier from the increment chart utilized to calculate points is based on the number of entries in each individual class.)

A horse must be ridden by the same rider in all over fences classes throughout its respective section at each WCHR Event in order for the points to count. For owner awards, multiple riders are acceptable. Riders competing on more than one horse will only accrue points earned by their highest placing horse overall in their respective WCHR category at each WCHR Event. Model classes and Hunter Classics do not count. A Professional and Developing Professional rider's standing will be determined by the total points earned by their highest placing horse overall in one eligible hunter section in which that horse-and-rider combination competes.

In the event that a Developing Professional's highest placing horse overall at a competition comes from one of the 3'0" or 3'3" WCHR hunter sections, the points earned on that horse count toward their Developing Professional Rider standings. In addition, the points earned on their highest placing horse in a 3'6" or higher WCHR hunter section at that same competition count toward their Professional Rider standings. This may result in a rider's Developing Professional standings differing from their Professional standings.

Points from a rider's top four WCHR Events will be used to determine the National and Regional standings.*

*WCHR exhibitors only earn points toward Regional Awards by competing at WCHR Events held in their declared region.

At some WCHR Events, WCHR hunter sections are offered with three or four classes instead of the more traditional five. To ensure equality throughout all eight regions and nationally, riders in each WCHR hunter section offered at a WCHR Event, earn points as if it was a five class section. When a WCHR section is offered with two over fences and one under saddle class, points earned in each over fences class will be doubled. When a WCHR section is offered with three over fences classes and one under saddle class, points earned in each over fences class will be multiplied by 1.33. When the total number of points earned in a section is not a whole number, the point total earned in that section will be rounded up or down, according to accepted principles of rounding (i.e. 124.49 will be rounded down to 124 and 124.50 will be rounded up to 125).

Riders can only earn points in one category both nationally and in their declared region. (Exception: Developing Professionals can earn points in the Professional and the Developing Professional Categories in the same competition year).

Championship Points

Champions in WCHR hunter sections will be awarded 2.0 times the total 1st place point value of the first class in that section. Reserve Champions will be awarded 1.2 times the total 1st place point value of the first class in that section. Refer to the increment chart below for 1st place point values.
