"It’s an amazing honor and reminds me that even young people can make a difference in this sport. At a young age, Berry has already shown an understanding of the importance of governance and volunteerism in equestrian sport. He began his journey in the sport as a volunteer, gaining hands-on experience in event logistics, from setting up jumps and helping with registration to preparing arenas and ensuring riders had a positive competition experience. Berry's enthusiasm for giving back to the community has been matched by a desire to learn about decision-making processes, rules, and policies that govern equestrian events.

Berry believes that governance and volunteering is the backbone of the sport and is essential for keeping the equestrian community strong and enjoyable. By getting involved in volunteering and learning how decisions are made, he looks forward to helping create a welcoming, safe, and fair space for everyone who loves horses to be involved.

Looking ahead, Berry plans to expand his contributions by serving on committees, organizing events, and inspiring others to volunteer. He aims to promote inclusivity, fairness, and safety while encouraging young riders to have a voice in shaping the future of the sport. Berry was also a recipient of the 2024 Gochman Grant for USEF Pony Finals

This grant is made possible by an anonymous donor who established the $500 grant to honor Topping’s work in equestrian sport governance, including his commitment to the establishment and success of USHJA. To be eligible for the grant, applicants must be an active USHJA member in good standing, 25 years of age or under, and demonstrate financial need.
