Platinum Performance Expands Title Sponsorship to 2018 USHJA International Hunter Derby Championship
Continues title sponsorship of the 2018 Platinum Performance/USHJA Green Hunter Incentive Championships

Lexington, Ky.–Mar. 6, 2018–The U.S. Hunter Jumper Association is pleased to announce Platinum Performance® is expanding its sponsorship with the USHJA to include the title sponsorship for the 2018 USHJA International Hunter Derby Championship while continuing as the title sponsor of the 2018 USHJA Green Hunter Incentive Championships. The Championship will now be known as the Platinum Performance/USHJA International Hunter Derby Championship, which will take place August 16-18, 2018 in the heart of horse country at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky.

This year the Platinum Performance/USHJA Green Hunter Incentive Championships will feature two sections of championships-one for horses competing at 3' or 3'3" and one for horses competing at 3'6" or 3'9". The Championships will again offer top prize money and payouts to riders using the Rider Ranking System. The Platinum Performance/USHJA Green Hunter Incentive Championships will take place August 14-16, 2018, at the Kentucky Horse Park.
The USHJA International Hunter Derby has brought the art of tradition and horsemanship back to the show ring to reflect the rich history and athleticism of the hunter. The USHJA International Hunter Derby Series has successfully brought attention to show hunters at the international level; increased spectator, media and sponsorship interest; and brought tradition and basic riding principles back to the sport of showing hunters. The 2018 series consists of 75 derbies held nationwide at competitions starting between December 1, 2017, and November 30, 2018. Through participation in the derbies, riders qualify their enrolled horses for inclusion on the national and regional money won tracking lists and the USHJA International Hunter Derby Championship.
The 2017 USHJA International Hunter Derby Championship, hosted invitation-only competitors as they vied for over $280,000 in Championship prize money, making it one of the most rewarding and prestigious finals available to hunters. Qualified horses compete over course s featuring International Hunter Derby style fences such as natural post and rail, stone wall, white board fence or gate, coop, aiken, hedge, oxer, brush, logs, natural foliage and natural obstacles such as banks and ditches. Fences are set at heights between 3'6" and 4'0", also including higher fence height options set at a minimum of 4'3". The Championship consists of a Classic Hunter first round with scores determining which horse and rider combinations advance to the Handy Hunter round or the Derby Challenge. Composite scores from the Classic Hunter and Handy Hunter rounds determine the overall champion and final placings.
