Registration Open for 2019 USHJA Annual Meeting, presented by World Equestrian Center

Educational Offerings Expanded This Year

Lexington, Ky.—October 10, 2019—Registration is open for the 2019 USHJA Annual Meeting, presented by World Equestrian Center, which will be held December 8-12 at the Denver Hilton City Center in Denver, Colorado. 

The meeting features opportunities to engage with USHJA board and committee members, discuss important topics such as rule changes, recognize the contributions of members during the annual Evening of Equestrians Awards Dinner and participate in educational sessions. 

The USHJA has expanded the educational offerings at this year’s meeting. Sessions that will be featured include: 

  • Virginia Tech Helmet Lab with Barry Miller, Ph.D., MBA; covering Virginia Tech's helmet ratings, helmet safety, and opportunities for equestrian helmets.
  • Jumper Judge’s Perspective with David Distler; more than just counting rails and refusals.
  • LandSafe with Keli and Danny Warrington; educating riders about what they can do to reduce their chance of injury and better protect themselves in the event of a fall.
  • Wealth Management with Don Fishback; covering beginning investing and financial planning.
  • Legal Liability with Julie Fershtman; discussion covering liabilities in equine activities and specific strategies that businesses, professionals, and individuals can undertake in an effort to limit or control their risks.
  • Waste Management and Sustainability with Mollie Bogardus, CEO, Aveterra; discussion about managing waste and other sustainability issues that directly affect the equine industry.

The meeting will kick off on Sunday, December 8, with USHJA Zone and Affiliate Day, which will include a Zone Education forum, and individual zone committee meetings. The Rule Change Forum to discuss proposed rule changes before they go to the Hunter and Jumper Working Groups for voting will take place on Monday, December 9. Tuesday, December 10, will feature a State of the Association presentation from USHJA President Mary Babick and numerous committee meetings and updates, as well as the Evening of Equestrian Awards Dinner, which will recognize year-end award winners. The meeting will conclude on Thursday, December 12, with the USHJA Board of Directors meeting and training. 

The meeting will also hold a Safe Sport Presentation on Wednesday, December 11. Michael Henry, chief response and resolution officer for the U.S. Center for SafeSport, will be present for the question and answer session, which will offer attendees a chance to hear directly from the Center on their queries about the program and its processes. This session will be streamed live online for those who cannot attend, and remote attendees will be able to submit questions via email. Registration is $100 per person until November 14. The price will increase to $125 per person on November 15 and will be $150 on site. Members who bring a first time attendee to the 2019 Annual Meeting will receive a $10 discount off their registration, the discount will also be extended to the first time attendee. 

New this year, members can purchase a day pass to attend educational sessions for $50, onsite only. Tickets to the Evening of Equestrians Awards Dinner are sold separately.

USHJA has reserved a block of rooms at the Hilton Denver City Center with a special room rate of $189 per night. Attendees are encouraged to book their accommodations early to ensure availability. Discounts for air travel and rental cars are also available. Access discounts here.
