Horse of the Year Hunter Championship
Qualifying Criteria for Hunters
- 2025 Zone 2 Hunter Qualifying period will run from July 2, 2024 – July 1, 2025.
- Entries must have earned at least one point in their section to be eligible for the Zone 2 Hunter Championship. Horse and rider must be recorded in Zone 2 and points count from Zone 2, including contiguous states (same as Year End HOTY calculations). Contiguous States for Zone 2 are: Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, Ohio, Vermont, West Virginia
- Anyone who wishes to compete at the Zone 2 HOTY Championship must complete an application during the open application period and pay an application fee in order to be considered for acceptance.
Acceptance for Hunters
- A minimum of 20 horses per section will be accepted based on cumulative points from their top 15 competitions, regardless of Channel, during the qualifying period.
- The points from the top 15 shows will be calculated cumulatively from their best Channel 1 (Premier and National) and Channel 2 (Regional) competitions into a single point total which will determine their ranking on the qualified list. Essentially, this remains the same as qualifying prior to the Channeling system.
- Policy on late applications:
- USHJA reserves the right to accept late applications (after the closing date for open applications) should sections not be filled to a minimum of 20 entries. Late fees may apply. Late applications will be accepted only until 5 days after the entry closing date as listed in the Prize List.
Horse of the Year Jumper Championship
- 2025 Zone 2 Jumper Qualifying period will run from July 2, 2024 – July 1, 2025.
- Entries must have earned at least 15 points in their section during the Qualifying period to be eligible for the Zone 2 Jumper Championship. Horse and rider must be recorded in Zone 2 and points count from Zone 2, including contiguous states (same as Year End HOTY calculations). Contiguous States for Zone 2 are: Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, Ohio, Vermont, West Virginia

Horse of the Year Equitation Championship
- The USHJA Zone 2 Equitation Championship is open to any rider that is an Active USHJA junior or amateur member.
- Once a rider has won the USHJA Zone 2 Equitation Championship three times, he/she will not be allowed to compete in the respective section again and will be invited to present awards for the following year.
The USHJA Zone 2 Equitation Championship will be held in 6 sections as follows – Please refer to the Zone 2 Equitation Championship Specifications for further details
- Low Adult Equitation Championship 2’6”:
- Rider may not cross enter a 3’ or higher medal at the same show.
- Childrens 3’ Equitation Championship
- Adult 3’ Equitation Championship
- Childrens Pony Equitation Championship
- 2’ for Small/Medium ponies; 2’6” for Large ponies
- Rider may not cross enter into the USEF Pony Medal or WIHS Pony or Childrens Medal at the same show.
- Low Childrens Pony Equitation Championship 2’
- Rider may not cross enter into the Children’s Pony Equitation Championship, USEF Pony Medal or WIHS Pony or Childrens Medal at the same show
